In the initial stages they delivered a robust feasibility study that helped engage partners, evolved the concept and support fundraising. Carrying on their support for the project into development and delivery phases, they designed the trails providing detailed specifications that allowed for accurate tendering and project planning. They were a fundamental part of the project team, working with an architect and construction team, integrating trail design within the whole site design offering sage advice on other issues such as car-parking and visitor centre lay-out .Their supervision of trail construction ensured we got the design we wanted. The trails are attracting the market we targeted and are being enjoyed by circa 150,000 visitors per year.

Colin Glen received funding to look into the of operation of mountain bike trails in their 250 acre Forest Park in Belfast. They appointed Outdoor Recreation Northern Ireland to ensure the trails were developed according to their best practice model. ORNI issued a tender for the Macro Trail Design and site visits. Cartwright Associates were appointed to carry out the feasibility visit, macro trail design and costings for the project.
We found Arran to be interested, experienced and friendly. Arran carried out several site surveys and identified areas that would be suitable for trails. He also noted areas that would require infrastructure and drainage schemes. The detail he put together regarding costings, trail design and mapping were thorough and detailed. The report was successfully used for drawing down project funding.
We will certainly include Cartwright Associates in any further procurement for this project and any other work for future projects.

Outdoor Recreation NI worked with Cartwright Associates on our Benburb Priory and Colin Glen Forest Park trail design projects. Arran and his team were professional at all times, and completed the tasks required of them to a high standard and to set deadlines. Both sites were complex in terms of their terrain and visitor requirements. Arran and his team were able to provide solutions to the issues that arose through the trail design process, that respected both the site and the brief that they were working to. Cadwyn Clwyd – in conjunction with the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB – procured Cartwright Associates to research and develop a single point of sale system for outdoor activity providers in the Dee Valley. Cartwright Associates accurately identified the most appropriate booking system for the group, providing a report which provided independent and objective recommendations which have informed the groups decision going forward.
